Hello! Are you squinting! Beautiful, blinding, sunlight! Bring it on!
This week I would like to announce a new program, ‘Whispers: Knitting Beautiful Holes’ which will happen 6 Wednesday evenings in the studio, from 6 to 8 pm on the following dates: April 20, May 4, May 18, June 1, June 15, June 29. We will work 2 light-weight shawls: one with a garter variation body and knit-on lace border: the Mountain Moss Shawl; and the other, a crescent-shaped piece with a garter body and beaded lace edging: the Winter Wander Shawl – both are suitable for beginner lace knitters, and for knitters who are looking for some variety in their lace knitting projects. The first half of each class will focus on lace stitch patterns, working a sample to build a resource binder (provided); the second half will focus on the shawl project, with two weeks between each class to allow time for project knitting to be done. We will address blocking and other finishing issues, and over this 12 week period, I will be available for email support. If you would like registration information and any more details about the program, please email me.
In other news. . . .
Many Sheep Heids are better than one!
The Fair Isle Knitters gathered here on Saturday, completed the hemmed corrugated rib brim, and began knitting little sheep legs!
We are knitting with Shetland wool, and as we knit, we talk about the importance of that match, i.e. the designs, the techniques, and the sheep breeds/yarn. We knit with thoughts of the many women who have knit Fair Isle before us, not for pleasure, but out of need, and we feel blessed and grateful for the traditions that have been shared with us, so that we may learn, too. This story brought my own heritage into view, born in England, but named after my Scottish Great-Grandmother.
This is my hat being blocked on a dinner plate and pickle jar.
The next 3 weeks of our Fair Isle Fiesta, with a brand new project, will run April 9, May 7, and June 4.
If you would like to join in, please let me know that you would like a chair reserved for you.
We are still researching our next project, which will either be a yoked pullover or cardigan. If you have a favourite, get your ideas in soon!
This Wednesday, the Valley Yarn Sock School students will be graduating! We will work a sewn cast-off edge at the top of our toe-up sock cuffs. Please bring along a blunt tapestry/darning needle with a large eye. Exciting times!
Fibres West is not so far off now! Yippee! There are so many wonderful classes to choose from.
Thank you to those who have chosen to study Brioche with me.
I can’t wait to see you! If you would like to come along, please register on the website.
Well that’s all for now! I’ll say goodbye with two links to touch your hearts:
bye, bye!
