Hello!

Are you well? Our school population was flattened by a virus this week. We know it’s serious when the ‘haz-mat team’ are arriving to disinfect our classrooms each evening. I hope you have been healthy, and if not, are recovering. Getting to the other side sure inspires a lot of gratitude for good health, doesn’t it? The same night that I was sent home ill, my furnace died. Just a few more reminders, Venessa, of what not to take for granted.

On Wednesday evening, Class #2 of Toe Up Sock School will happen at Valley Yarn from 6 – 8 p.m.  In this week’s class we will customize the fit over our insteps in preparation to work a very beautiful heel.

On Friday Night, students will gather with a variety of projects from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. First we will breathe a collective sigh of relief as we sink into a comfy chair and raise a hot cup of tea to another winter week successfully lived! Then we’ll work away for 3 wonderful hours, sharing a little life, a lot of laughs, and much knit talk and instruction. If you would like to be part of this event, please let me know by Wednesday, so that I can prepare for you.

Over the weekend the Fair Isle Fiesta began here in the cozy (that means small) studio space. These classes are intense! I think the students are very brave. We began by sharing some tea and healthy food, while we organized all the materials we will be using for our projects over the next few months. No stone was left unturned when it came to our analysis of this traditional form of colour work. It is awe inspiring work, and such a great honour to be included in the long history, ritual, and technique study. We chatted about the Shetland Islands (obsessed!) and the ritual of Up Helly Aa which coincidentally is happening this week. It’s just a little bit intriguing, don’t you think? Our group is delightful and very hard working! It was some kind of special day!

What a wonderful surprise to find the Winter Vogue Knitting on the news stands all decked out in Swedish colour work, inspired by the Bohus tradition.

A great cover-to-cover read!

Here is a wonderful conference coming in the Fall to Seattle! Registration opens June 1st.
